The simplest, most effective way to solve writer’s block is to put pen to paper, or fingers to keys, and do not stop the pen or the fingers under any circumstance. You don’t know what to write? Good, then write apples, oranges, bananas, eggs, whatever words come through your pen.
Importantly, do not censor them. Let the pen spill what it will or your fingers spell whatever words want to come out. If you do this without stopping the pen for at least ten minutes, the dam will unblock…and…the quality of your work will have a luminosity that comes from your being, as opposed to from your intellect.
This unblocking technique works for all types of writing from academic to creative to business to personal.
The critical thing with writer’s block is to see it as a time for something new to appear and to take an attitude of expectation to your pen.
Writing is an activity – the movement of pen over paper or fingers over keyboard. Writing is always possible.
So write! Trust your pen, give it free rein, and keep it moving so that it can produce what you need.
Write to me and tell me that this didn’t work for you.
